charming residences
It is said that the CASA dei TURCHI was the harem of a Turkish silk merchant who settled in the city in the 18th century, when Rovereto was one of the capitals of the European silk industry, and that the wooden lattice screens on the balconies and windows were installed to prevent people outside from seeing the women who lived there: the perforated wood allowed light to pass through but not the prying eyes of the guards stationed at the bridge. It is said that the CASA dei TURCHI is more popular than the Mart (L'Adige.it - July 27, 2018). Certainly the most photographed house in Rovereto, the most evocative view of the city!
